What is PDO Threads Facelift?
Polydioxanone (PDO) threads facelift is a less invasive cosmetic procedure that creates a type of mesh or scaffolding to lift the skin and emphasize the jaw lines. It uses synthetic absorbable surgical suture threads. These are FDA-approved and are exactly the same absorbable surgical sutures used by surgeons when they perform cardiothoracic surgery (such as open-heart surgery). As such, it’s one of the safest materials to be implanted in the body. PDO threads are also fully absorbed by the skin within 4 to 6 months without leaving any scar tissue at all.
How do PDO Threads Work?
PDO thread lifts take advantage of your body’s “Selective Inflammatory Response” to stimulate collagen production. It is the principle behind a lot of aesthetic procedures (such as Fractional Laser, Chemical Peels, & Microneedling).
When the threads are inserted under the skin, it triggers the cells in your body to produce more collagen. So as the PDO suture is absorbed into your skin, your body continues to produce more collagen than usual. This strengthens your skin and improves elasticity as well as skin hydration. Over time, your skin’s structure will improve making you look years younger than your age.

The Best Procedure For The Neck & Jawline
Although PDO Threads can be inserted almost anywhere, one area where they are especially effective is the neck and jawline. The lower third of the face is challenging to treat effectively with botulinum toxin or injectable fillers, which are most effective in the upper and middle third of the face, respectively.
Mesh or Lift?
There are two types of procedures with PDO Threads: The first one (using smooth threads) consists of creating a mesh under the skin (i.e. 2 sutures inserted vertically & 3 sutures horizontally). Sort of like a hashtag, or a net. This Mesh will serve as the foundation for our new collagen production. This technique tightens the skin naturally from within and results appear naturally without any drastic change!
The other technique (using barbed threads) is utilized to produce a more dramatic and immediate result. The PDO sutures have “barbs”, which provide a grip underneath the skin. Sutures are inserted the same way, except they can be pulled in 1 or 2 directions, creating an instant skin repositioning. Just like with the Smooth threads, the skin will then build new collagen which will secure the lift!
